Reusable Rockets in Development
The Long March 10A is a human-rated launch vehicle designed to replace the current Long March 2F, along with the Low Earth Orbit version of China's Mengzhou crewed spacecraft, as their new Low Earth Orbit crew missions launcher. It is based on a single 1st stage core of the Long March 10, with 7 YF-100 series kerosene/liquid oxygen staged-combustion cycle engines on the 1st stage and 1 on the 2nd stage. The 1st stage is designed to be recovered downrange by a recovery barge equipped with an arrestor net and support frame, with the 1st stage landing on the net’s cables using its grid fins.
The Maia rocket is a future orbital reusable launch vehicle under development by the French startup MaiaSpace, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the ArianeGroup. The first stage is powered by 3 Prometheus gas generator methane/LOX engines developed under ESA's Future Launchers Preparatory Programme, with the first stage booster returning to a barge at sea. The second stage is powered by a single Prometheus engine, with restart capability. An optional Colibri kick stage could be added to provide enhanced mission flexibility as well as performance to LEO.
MIURA 5 is a 2 stage launch vehicle powered by liquid oxygen and kerosene. The vehicle is designed, integrated and operated by PLD Space, and its 1st stage is designed to be eventually recovered by parachuting into the sea.
Neutron is an upcoming medium-lift two-stage launch vehicle under development by Rocket Lab. Neutron features a reusable first stage fueled by LOX and Methane.
The New Glenn 9x4 is a further enhanced variant of the current New Glenn rocket (the "7x2" configuration) by Blue Origin. The New Glenn 9x4 uses 9 updated BE-4 Block 2 engines on the reusable 1st stage and 4 BE-3U engines on the 2nd stage, with a 8.7 meters diameter payload fairing. It can carry 70 metric tons to low Earth orbit, 14 metric tons to Geostationary Orbit Direct, and 20 metric tons to Trans Lunar Injection.
Stoke Space’s Nova launch vehicle is a planned fully reusable 2-stage rocket. The 1st stage uses 7 Zenith Full-flow staged-combustion (FFSC) engines using Liquified natural gas/liquid oxygen (LNG/LOX) as fuel, with restartable capability and landing legs for landing. The 2nd stage is unconventionally designed around a 24-thrust chamber liquid hydrogen/liquid oxygen (LH2/LOX) expander cycle rocket engine that surrounds a regeneratively cooled heat shield, thus enabling the upper stage to return to Earth from orbit without thermal tiles. The nozzle accommodates deep throttle operation even in the presence of atmospheric pressure and serves as an actively cooled metallic heat shield during atmospheric reentry. There is also a center passive bleed that aims to create an aerospike engine-like effect for improved efficiency.

Terran R is a medium-lift 2-stage launch vehicle developed by Relativity Space is the first fully-reusable, entirely 3D printed orbital launch vehicle.
Themis is an ESA rocket prototype – a flagship European demonstrator for low-cost rocket recovery and reuse technologies. Powered by the reusable, methane-fuelled engine Prometheus, it is developed with ArianeGroup as prime contractor and building on decades of European research and experience in rocketry and space operations, Themis is designed to launch, land vertically and live on for another mission.
Callisto is a demonstrator designed to conduct flight testing and mature the complex technologies required to return a launcher to Earth, as well as refurbishment operations between flights, and to precisely cost an operational European launcher with a reusable first stage (it is not intended to become an operational launcher). Standing for “Cooperative Action Leading to Launcher Innovation in Stage Toss-back Operations”, Callisto is a project being pursued with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the German space agency DLR. A large number of international contractors are also contributing to the experiment, among them ArianeGroup and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
